Coastal coal freight rates from China's Qinhuangdao port fall for seventh week
Freight rates for shipping coal from northern China's Qinhuangdao port to the other Chinese ports of Zhangjiagang, Shanghai and Guangzhou fell in the week ended January 21 -- making it the seventh straight week of declines -- Qinhuangdao Port said Wednesday.
The freight rates for 20,000-30,000 mt vessels from Qinhuangdao to Zhangjiagang averaged Yuan 29.60/mt ($4.89/mt) in the week ended January 21, down Yuan 2.60/mt week on week, the report said.
The Qinhuangdao-Shanghai route for vessels with a capacity of 40,000-50,000 mt slipped Yuan 2.70/mt on the week to average Yuan 23.40/mt, while the freight rate from Qinhuangdao to Guangzhou for 50,000-60,000 mt vessels fell by Yuan 4.10/mt to Yuan 35.10/mt.
Meanwhile, coal stocks at Qinhuangdao port stood at 6.75 million mt as of January 22, up from 6.31 million mt a week ago, 5.63 million mt on January 8 and 5.16 million mt on January 1, port figures show.
