China's express delivery parcel volume increases 60pc in 2013

CHINA handled a total of 9.2 billion pieces of courier packages last year, which surged 60 per cent from 2012, and is the second largest volume under the US.

Last year, China's highest single-day parcel handling volume tops 65 million pieces. Revenue from the express industry increased 36 per cent to CNY143 billion (US$23.67 billion).

Ma Shengjun, Director of the China State Postal Bureau, said China's express industry has been growing at twice the speed of the economic growth during recent years, but there are many problems in the industry.

Mr Ma said, this year, the administration authority will shift their focus on the industry's development from quantity to quality, and guide the industry in expanding their delivery service to rural areas and to western hinterland regions, and in development of international services. Meanwhile, the authority will promote the development of express delivery service for manufacturers and for overseas online shoppers.

Mr Ma also noted that customers satisfaction of express service has been improving steadily for six consecutive years. Satisfaction of complaint handling has risen to 92.1 per cent.
