Second national Sino-Laos Mengkang checkpoint opens for service
THE opening ceremony for China Mengkang Checkpoint also known as Lantouy Checkpoint in Laos, the second Class 1 national checkpoint between the two countries, was recently held, reports Xinhua.
Neighboring Phongsali province of Laos, the Mengkang checkpoint in Yunnan province's Puer city, passed national acceptance check in November 2013 and was officially opened in the middle of December 2013. The import and export cargo via the checkpoint mainly include coal, timber, sugarcane, agricultural implements and daily necessities.
Mayor of Puer city Qian Dewei said the opening of the checkpoint will promote bilateral economic development as well as bring more development opportunities for China and ASEAN countries. He also noted that the Puer municipal government will further accelerate the construction of the checkpoint to enhance clearance efficiency.
Laos Phongsali provincial governor also expressed his hope that to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation on the checkpoint management and legal publicity.
