China's daily express parcels top 30 million pieces in 2013
DURING the first 11 months in 2013, China recorded a courier package volume of 8.12 billion pieces, which marked a dramatic increase of 61.4 per cent year on year and exceeded the yearly target of 8 billion pieces.
In the single month of November, China's monthly express parcels rocketed to a record-breaking volume of 1.09 billion pieces.
From January to November, China's express industry revenue climbed 36.4 per cent to CNY128.61 billion (US$21.25 billion). Same-city delivery revenue surged 50.9 per cent to CNY14.84 billion. Intercity delivery grew 30 per cent to CNY73.66 billion. International and Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan delivery increased 31 per cent to CNY24.43 billion.
China State Post Bureau Director Ma Junsheng said, as of the end of 2013, there are over 9,000 licensed couriers in China, six of them have a revenue of over CNY10 billion, taking up 79 per cent share of the market. In 2013, China's daily express package volume surpassed 30 million pieces on average and peaked at 65 million pieces. The full year volume is expected to be 9.2 billion pieces, which will be the second largest to US.
Chairman of Alibaba and Cainiao Network Technology Ma Yun said e-commerce is providing vast job opportunities for the express industry. China State Post Bureau's figures show, during recent years, about 60 per cent's courier parcels come from e-commece.
During the November 11 "Singles' Day" online shopping spree period from November 11 to 16, the express industry collected 346 million pieces of parcels, which was 73 per cent higher than in the same period in 2012. Peak volume hit 65.17 million pieces, 85 per cent higher than one year ago.
What is noteworthy is that, as business volume keeps surging, customer satisfaction for delivery service rises along. The delivery service satisfaction scored 72.1 points in the early half of 2013, which was 0.4 points higher year on year. At the same time, complaint cases fell for the first time is three years.
