Huanghua port's throughput growth fastest in China
DURING the period from January to November 2013, Hebei province's Huanghua port recorded a robust growth of 35.5 per cent year on year in its throughput to 155 million tonnes, which was the fastest among all ports with a throughput of 100 million tonnes and over in China, Xinhua reports.
During the past three years, Huanghua port's throughput was rising rapidly. It handled only 1.61 million tonnes back in 2010. Then in 2011, its throughput climbed to 11.27 million tonnes. 2012 was the first year the port started container business. It recorded 19.96 million tonnes' tonnage and 102,000 TEUs' box volume, which was the largest first-year container throughput among all terminals.
In order to support development of the port's container business, government of Hebei province and Cangzhou city have introduced series of measures including exempting toll fees for container trucks and offering subsidies for carriers and container freight yards.
Carriers that operates shipping lines from Huanghua can get subsidy of from CNY50,000 (US$8260.9) to CNY200,000 for every sailing based on the service they offer. Huanghua's dry port facility in the hinterland region will receive an annual subsidy of CNY1 million if they handled more than 20,000 TEU per year. Container freight yards with cargo volume of more than 10,000 TEU per year will get CNY500,000 every year. Shippers or carriers that transport bulk cargo in containers will get CNY200 for each TEU.
Huanghua plans to build a total of 209 berths. 101 will be built at multi-use terminals and bulk terminals. By 2015, the port's throughput will reach 300 million tonnes in terms of tonnage and 2 million TEU in terms of containers
