China, Kazakhstan cooperate on rapid customs clearance for farm produce
CHINA and Kazakhstan have started cooperation on streamlining customs clearance procedures for agricultural product imports and exports at the Sino-Kazakh border checkpoint Bakhty, Xinhua reports.
The two customs services have set up an exclusive counter to handle agricultural declarations, which will check documents and issue a fast-track "green channel" label to trusted shippers and truckers.
The first 10 trucks with the "green channel" labels completed clearance in minutes before heading for Kazakhstan.
The customs clearance cooperation facilitate trade of farm produce between China and Central Asian countries. These products now enjoy faster transit times from China to Kazakhstan and Russian markets.
After a month's operation, two countries will assess the effect and make further improvements. In the future, the cooperation will be expanded other neighbouring countries, while the range of product will also be widened to cover other kinds such as household goods, machines and energy resources.
The Bakhty border checkpoint is the oldest border checkpoint in Xinjiang. The place where the checkpoint is located is an important agriculture production area in Xinjiang.
From January to November, Xinjiang's trade with Kazakhstan grew 10.6 per cent to US$11 billion, taking up 47 per cent of Xinjiang's trade value total and 42 per cent of the Sino-Kazakh trade total.
