Norwegian Air to buy two more Dreamliners despite several breakdowns
BUDGET carrier Norwegian Air is buying two more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to service its expanding long-haul services, Reuters reports.
Norwegian has three operational 787-8s. Its first two broke down a half dozen times, forcing it to lease back-up planes and cancel flights, but the aircraft are again back in regular service.
Said Norwegian CEO Bjoern Kjos: "We are not thinking of stopping at 10 Dreamliners. How many we will have in 2020 depends on how many we can get hold of in 2016 to 2017. There is limited availability. Not everyone can get hold of them."
Last year the airline placed one of Europe's biggest-ever aircraft orders, for 222 narrow-body aircraft worth US$21.5 billion at list prices, split between Airbus and Boeing.
