Xinjiang-Kazakhstan trade increases 18.6pc from January to October
XINJIANG's trade with bordering Kazakhstan has posted an 18.6 per cent year-on-year increase from January to October to US$18.59 billion, taking up 51.2 per cent of Xinjiang's foreign trade value, reports Xinhua.
Exports from Xinjiang to Kazakhstan increased 22.3 per cent in trade value to $8.26 billion while imports from Kazakhstan grew 15.8 per cent to $10.33 billion, according to statistics from Urumqi Customs.
Xinjiang posted an 11.4 per cent year-on-year export increase in October to Kazakhstan valued at $880 million while imports from Kazakhstan fell 4.1 per cent to $1.03 billion.
In the first 10 months, Xinjiang's electrical machinery product exports to Kazakhstan increased 11.3 per cent to $2.45 billion, taking up 29.7 per cent in the total of Xinjiang's export value to Kazakhstan. Garment exports surged 48.4 per cent to $3.24 billion, accounting for 39.2 per cent. Footwear exports dropped 20.6 per cent to $800 million while agricultural produce exports were up 17 per cent to $140 million.
Xinjiang's cross-border petty trade with Kazakhstan grew 10.2 per cent to $6.67 billion, accounting for 35.9 per cent of the total value of their trade. General trade also grew 20.8 per cent in value to $9.41 billion, taking up 50.6 per cent in the total.
Kazakhstan continues to be Xinjiang's largest trading partner. In 2012, bilateral trade between the two regions went 5.4 per cent up from 2011 to $11.16 billion, taking up 44 per cent of Xinjiang's total foreign trade value.
Alanshankou remained as one of the most important border checkpoints for trade between Xinjiang and Kazakhstan. During the first 10 months, trade cargo handled at the checkpoint increased 7.8 per cent to $13.04 billion, which represented 70.2 per cent in the total of Xinjiang-Kazakhstan trade.
