China-wide 11-month container volume rises 7.3pc to 173 million TEU
CHINA-WIDE maritime port container throughput increased 7.3 per cent year on year to 173 million TEU from January to November, according to the Ministry of Transportation, reported Xinhua.
Seaports handled 155 million TEU, up 7.5 per cent while river port volume grew 5.7 per cent to 18.53 million TEU.
In the first 11 months, Chinese ports overall tonnage climbed 9.3 per cent to 9.74 billion tonnes. Seaports handled 2.77 billion tonnes, up 10 per cent while river port volume was up 11 per cent to 272 million tonnes.
Foreign trade cargo was up 10.1 per cent to 3.05 billion tonnes with 2.77 billion handled at sea ports, up 10 per cent, and 272 million tonnes was handled by river ports, up 11 per cent.
In November, container volume through Chinese ports came to 16.38 million TEU with seaports lifting 14.7 million TEU while river ports accounted for 1.68 million TEU.
Overall tonnage volume at all ports in the country amounted to 890 million tonnes with 606 million tonnes moving through seaports and 284 million tonnes via river ports.
Foreign trade throughput came in at 890 million tonnes with seaports handling 256 million tonnes and river ports 24.49 million tonnes.
