Port of Long Beach posts 2.5pc November volume hike to 569,599 TEU
THE Port of Long Beach posted a 2.5 per cent year-on-year increase in November container volume to 569,599 TEU, making it the second best month of the year.
This follows recent figures from the adjacent Port of Los Angeles showing that November imports and exports rose 20.2 per cent to 521,422 TEU.
At Long Beach, imports increased 6.5 per cent to 296,638 TEU and exports rose 9.9 per cent to 151,950 TEU. Empties dropped 12.7 per cent to 121,011 TEU, attributed to a rise in US exports.
"For the first 11 months of calendar year 2013, cargo container volume was up 12.1 per cent - including 14.4 per cent more imports, 10. 8 per cent more exports and 8.6 per cent more empties," said the Long Beach press release.
A breakdown of Los Angeles volume results shows that imports grew 18.7 per cent year on year to 342,247 TEU this November, while exports soared 23.3 per cent to 179,175 TEU. But year to date, total container volumes fell 3.7 per cent year on year to 7,215,223 TEU.
