US to introduce bipartisan bill to give Obama Trade Promotion Authority
TWO US senators and a congressman in January will introduce bipartisan legislation the president needs to pass trade treaties with only a straight yes-or-no vote in both chambers without amendments.
Trade Promotion Authority is considered crucial to enact trade deals and could pave the way for major accords with Pacific Rim and European trading partners, Reuters reports.
The agreement was reached among Max Baucus, a Democrat who chairs the Senate Finance Committee which has jurisdiction over trade, the committee's senior Republican, Orrin Hatch, and Representative Dave Camp, the Republican chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee that oversees trade.
