Freight train from Xian moves out to Kazakhstan on first trip
A CONTAINER train on the newly-opened Changan International Freight Line has embarked on its first trip from Xian, Shaanxi province to Almaty, Kazakhstan, reports Xinhua.
The train, carrying 41 carloads of machine parts, barite and industrial salt, is expected to cover the 3,866-kilometres in six days, effectively cutting 20 days from previous road journey into Central Asia.
The Changan line is comprised of one main line stretching from Xian to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with a total length of 9,850 kilometres, while two auxiliary lines with one branches to Moscow with length of 7,251 kilometres and one to Kazakhstan.
A bulk train leaving Xian for Zhem, Kazakhstan will transport 49 cars of oil-drilling equipment over a 10-day trip.
Experts say the launch of the freights are part of the implementation of the plan to develop the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and represents important infrastructure development to build an open economy.
