Guangxi's high-speed rail line starts test run on Gulf of Tonkin coast
THE new high-speed rail line along the coast of Gulf of Tonkin in southwestern China's Guangxi Autonomous Region, has started test run as preparation for the official opening at year end.
The high-speed railway, which has a designed speed of 250 kph, runs from Guangxi's capital city Nanning, passing three major local ports, Qinzhou, Beihai and Fangchenggang. Travel time of the time is within one hour.
Opening of the new railway can raise capacity on the route from the previous 25 million tonnes to more than 200 million tonnes, according to Xinhua's report.
Starting construction in December 2008, the line is composed of three sections, which are the Nanning-Qinzhou, Qinzhou-Fangchenggang and Qinzhou-Baihai railway. The Nanning-Qinzhou railway is 98.79 kilometres long, Qinzhou-Fangchenggang railway 61.93 kilometres and Qinzhou-Beihai railway 99.5 kilometres. All of the three railways are for both passenger and cargo transportation.
The new railway is the first to start test run among the seven high-speed railways in Guangxi to be open for traffic this year. It is said to provide greater convenience for cargo from southwestern hinterland regions that need to transship via Guangxi's ports, and will facilitate trade between China and ASEAN.
