Transnet halts Ngqura terminal bids without explanation, vows update later
SOUTH AFRICA's state-run Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) suddenly suspended bidding for 25-year concession to run the Ngqura Container Terminal.
TNPA in a statement to bidders said it had become necessary to suspend the process in terms of clause 10 of document, reports Lloyd's List.
"In light of the suspension, TNPA has advised bidders that it will not be accepting any bids and prospective bidders should not submit their bids on the closing date of December 3," it said.
TNPA gave no further explanation but pledged to update prospective bidders "in due course".
The purpose-built deepwater port, due to expand from 800,000 TEU to two million TEU by 2019 was opened 2009, and stands to benefit from investment from Transnet Port Terminals.
The bidding process by ports authority, part of the parastatal Transnet Group, covers the financing, operating and maintenance of the NCT transshipment hub.
