Alfa Laval Innovative Technologies Showcased at Marintec 2013 Improve Marine Industry’s Energy Efficiency
Alfa Laval, the global leader in heat transfer, separation and fluid handling technologies, today announced its participation in the upcoming Marintec 2013 show, held in Shanghai during December 3-6. Alfa Laval will be at Hall N1, Stand N1D51-4, exhibiting a range of innovative products, demonstrating the company’s commitment to improving marine industry’s energy efficiency and helping ship builders to protect the sea environment, meeting the increasingly stricter regulation requirements.
Four new products will be highlighted during the show:
PureBallast 3.0
PureBallast 3.0 is the third generation of ballast water treatment system from Alfa Laval. With a more flexible design, it is 50% smaller than the previous versions, allowing for easier installation in a cramped engine room. PureBallast 3.0 uses up to 60% less energy and can handle flows up to 6000 m³/h. The system employs a unique form of UV treatment called the Advanced Oxidation Technology (AOT) which has a proven biological impact leading to better treatment performance and lower energy consumption.
PureDry
The PureDry waste oil treatment system signals a paradigm shift in separator design, reducing waste oil volumes by 99%. PureDry recovers fuel oil from a dedicated waste fuel oil collection tank, returning it to the bunker tank for reuse after normal treatment. For the ship owner, this means a reduction of up to 2% in the total volume of fuel oil consumed – and a corresponding reduction in the ship’s fuel bill.
Fuel Conditioning Module, FCM
The FCM One combines the strengths of the original Fuel Conditioning Module with a completely new level of flexibility. Besides conditioning fuel for an exact match of engine specifications, it can be configured to handle multiple fuels, produce fuel blends and manage the automatic changeover between them. Heating and cooling functions, as well as all selected features, are integrated into a single module with intuitive control.
AQUA Blue
In 2008, Alfa Laval introduced a completely new process for freshwater generation. Using unique 3-in-1 plates, AQUA cut seawater requirements and saves both the pump capacity and the pumping energy by 50%.
AQUA Blue uses the same proven, energy efficient 3-in-1 process. But it incorporates a wide range of enhancements for easier installation, simpler operation and even lower energy consumption.
In the booth, visitors can also see Alfa Laval’s Aalborg KBM burner and IGG (Inert Gas Generator), Alfa Laval Moitti’s Fuel Oil Filter, the S Separator 9 series and the PureSox exhaust gas cleaning system.
The Alfa Laval Service offering will be another strong focus at this Marintec show. From a display zone designed at the booth, visitors can better understand the benefits of extended performance: maximum uptime, availability and optimization by applying Alfa Laval’s solutions.
Seminars
During the three-day exhibition, Alfa Laval will also hold a series of technical seminars, giving detailed explanations of its new products and technologies (see agenda on www,alfalaval.cn).
“Today’s marine industry faces difficult and conflicting challenges, especially when it comes to energy and strict environmental regulations. As rising fuel prices and shrinking margins create a push to reduce fuel consumption, environmental laws and other regulations are necessitating fuel changes and increasing the amount of energy-consuming equipment on board. Achieving a profitable balance takes a combination of new thinking, deep experience and wide reach – which is exactly what Alfa Laval will display at this Marintec,” said Stella Ye, Vice President, Marine and Diesel Division of Alfa Laval China.
