Piraeus bunker market decreases by 20% as cruise season ends: trade
The bunker fuel market at the Greek port of Piraeus is set to contract by around 20% as the annual passenger cruise season ends on November 15, Greek sources said.
In the last two weeks, bunker fuel demand has been steadily falling for cruise ship volumes as the tourist season comes to an end in the Mediterranean ports, the sources said.
"On average, Piraeus monthly traded bunker fuel oil volumes will drop by 10,000 tonnes per month in the winter season," one source said.
The cruise season will restart in March-April, the source added.
However, the drop in cruise ship bunker volumes hasn't yet impacted bunker fuel prices, traders said, though they added that demand is likely to ramp up in the winter when lower volumes will be traded on the market.
