China's 9-month fruit and veg exports up 13.9pc to 70,000 tonnes

THE northwestern Xinjiang Korgas checkpoint posted a year-on-year 13.9 per cent increase in central Asia fruits and vegetables export volume to 70,000 tonnes with the trade value rising 8.8 per cent to US$70 million in the first nine months, reports Xinhua.

Fruit exports in the period increased 19.7 per cent to 66,000 tonnes with the value growing 12.4 per cent to $60 million.

China's fruit and vegetable exports have had rapid growth with one exporter saying it recently signed order for 1,000 tonnes of produce with a Kazakhstani importer company.

Thus far, the export volume has reached 1,500 tonnes and the total export volume is expected to hit 3,000 tonnes by year end.

Korgas customs comprehensive business department section chief Cao Aijun said competitive price and high quality of China's fruits are attributed to the export development. In addition, the customs department has opened "green passage" for agricultural produce clearance, which also enhanced the efficiency.

Korgas checkpoint's fruit and vegetable exports reached 97,000 tonnes in 2012 and the trade value totalled $97.61 million.
