Xinjiang checkpoint 9-month volume up 20.3pc to 36.1 million tonnes
THE northwestern Xinjiang checkpoint posted a year-on-year 20.3 per cent increase in cargo transport volume to 36.1 million tonnes in the first three quarters, according to Urumqi customs, reports Xinhua.
As an important indicator of economic development, the growth of freight volume shows positive economic condition in the region. The government also has enhanced the rail freight capacity and efficiency by launching international rail intermodal services.
Collective freight volume in the entire Xinjiang increased 9.7 per cent in the period, of which rail volume grew 5.4 per cent, road throughput was up 10.3 per cent and civil aviation tonnage rose 22.1 per cent.
