Xian airport cargo terminal covering 22.5 hectares starts operation

THE new air freight terminal at Xian city's Xianyang International Airport, which is the largest of the same kind of facility in northwestern China, has started operation, bring an annual cargo capacity of 450,000 tonnes to the airport, Xinhua reports.

The new air freight handling area of the airport covers 22.53 hectares with a 50,000-square-metre cargo terminal. It is located in the west of the airport, connecting the national expressway from Fuzhou to Yinchuan.



In the area, there is a 20,000-square-metre warehouse for domestic cargo and a 10,000-square-metre facility for international freight that are owned by the China West Airport Group, a 14,000-square-metre warehouse owned by China Eastern Airlines, as well as a 6,000-square-metre mail handling centre owned by China Post.



In the new cargo area, there is also customs and inspection facilities with automatic gates with an integrated data managing and sharing platform. There is also an international express parcels handling centre and temperature- and humidity-controlled warehouse.



There are already more than 20 freight forwarders that have set up branches in the new cargo area. A charter freighter service from Seoul to Xian by Korean Air is to be launched mid-November.
