Shandong's 9-month computer laptop exports fall in volume and price
EASTERN China's Shandong province exported 1.77 million laptops in the first nine months, a year-on-year decline of 22.8 per cent coupled with 26.5 per cent fall in value to US$980 million, reports Xinhua.
Shandong's monthly laptop exports recorded year-on-year decline for eight straight months since February this year. In September, it dropped to 187,000, down 12.4 per cent year on year, but up 24 per cent over August, according to the figures from the Qingdao customs.
In this period, Shandong's average export price of per laptop was fluctuating between $500 to $600. In September, it was at US$552.70, up 10.9 per cent year on year and 0.6 per cent month on month.
In the first three quarters, Shandong's laptop exports to Korea plunged 29.7 per cent to 982,000, representing 55.4 per cent of the province's laptop export total. In the same period, those exported to the US soared 110 per cent to 333,000. While those to Japan fell 6.6 per cent to 122,000.
Qingdao customs' analysis pointed out that the reason for the fall in both laptop export volume and price lies in weak demand caused by world economic recession, and competition from the rapidly developing smartphones and their increasingly lower price.
