UK Chamber of Shipping welcomes seven new members from across the maritime sector

The UK Chamber of Shipping has recently welcomed seven new organisations to its membership. They join around 140 other members from across the maritime sector for whom the UK Chamber works with Government, Parliament, international organisations and others to champion and protect UK shipping.

The UK Chamber has a large and diverse membership of shipowners and operators that span the breadth of the maritime sector, as well as professional organisations with a maritime interest and associate members who provide services to UK shipping.

Representing almost 1,000 ships, the UK Chamber speaks with a strong, unified voice and monitors and responds to regulatory changes that can affect shipping and maritime business in the UK. It has a long track record of success on behalf of its members and the wider shipping sector and looks forward to working closely with the seven new organisations.

Two new shipowners have elected to join – the CSL Group, a leading provider of marine dry bulk cargo handling and delivery services and the world’s largest owner and operator of self-unloading vessels; and Absolute Shipping, a new UK-based owner and operator of coastal dry cargo vessels.

Eion Lyons, Managing Director of Absolute Shipping, said of the decision:

“It was an important element within our business plan that the new venture should be a member of the UK Chamber of Shipping.

“We have no doubt that UK Chamber membership assists in the smooth operation of our organisation and provides us with access and information as a collective that would be far more difficult to achieve as an individual operator.”

Three legal firms have entered the UK Chamber as professional members:

•    Brodies LLP is a full service Scottish headquartered commercial law firm offering clients the largest specialist legal resource in Scotland, and recognised as a leading firm in the shipping sector across a wide range of transactional and contentious work.
•    DWF LLP is one of the fastest growing law firms in the UK, offering a full range of services with teams specialising on all aspects of law
•    Dundas & Wilson are a major UK commercial law firm with long experience of advising matters ranging from FPSOs to ferries projects to financing structures.

Duncan MacLean, Partner at Brodies, said:"We are committed to and see a great future in the shipping and marine industries and are delighted to become members of the UK Chamber of Shipping, allowing us to engage further with the sector, understand the issues that matter most to its members and help champion the interests of the industry."

Neil Amner, Partner at DWF, commented:

“Membership to the UK Chamber of Shipping reflects the continued growth of the firm's maritime expertise and our commitment to the sector. It will enable our people to keep up to date with industry issues and work proactively with the shipping industry.”

Eleanor Lane, Dundas & Wilson Partner, added:

"Dundas & Wilson is delighted to join the UK Chamber of Shipping and help show that the maritime industry has a strong and powerful voice."

Completing the new recruits are Dupont, who work inclusively with the marine industry to find innovative, science-enabled solutions to some of the biggest challenges including regulatory compliance for the future; and Henry Abram & Sons, a specialist in shipping logistics and a leading supplier of heavy lift transportation and engineering as well as tug and barge offshore projects.
