ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation is launching new fire rated constructions according to the IMO 2010 FTP Code

New fire rated constructions from ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation meet the highest standard for safety

ROCKWOOL has developed a new range of constructions tested according to the new fire test pro-cedure IMO 2010 FTP Code. The constructions are presented at Kormarine 2013 and ensure ship owners a future-proof insulation that has the highest level of safety within passive fire protection.

The test procedures have been revised in order to maintain the highest practical level of safety as well as to ensure the harmonisation of certified test institutes to the same level. According to the IMO 2010 FTP Code existing certificates will still be valid within a certain transition period, but ROCKWOOL has spent the spring testing their new solutions to meet the new standards.

“We are launching our constructions according to the new standards now because our general strategy is to be first mover when it comes to safety. Already, we have had requests from some of our customers about constructions that meet the new standards so we also see that our customers are focused on the highest safety level,” says Marketing Manager Jan Sandler from ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation.

Safety at the highest level
ROCKWOOL’s new solutions are placed in for example bulkhead and decks in the engine room where you need to fulfil the requirements for passive fire protection. With the new solutions, ROCKWOOL is able to meet the requirements from designers and ship owners that demand that the passive fire protection is certi-fied according to the new standards.

“The solutions are part of our offerings within our SeaRox product line with dedicated approved and certified solutions for marine and offshore applications. The new solutions give ship owners a construction that offers the highest level of fire protection. As the market in Korea, especially within offshore is very important, we find Kormarine an obvious place to present the new solutions.” states Jan Sandler.

VIKING optimizes safety at sea with protective suits and lifejackets in high visibility yellow
Tests in Denmark and Canada have shown that the yellow color provides much more visibility in the dark. At Kormarine 2013 VIKING Life-Saving Equipment therefore launches some of the company’s well-known protective suits and lifejackets in high visibility yellow.
In an emergency at sea it is vital that the protection equipment is visible. New tests conducted by the Cana-dian authorities and VIKING Life- Saving Equipment in cooperation with the Danish Coastguard clearly indi-cate that yellow is highly visible. Consequently, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment now offers high visible yellow in the range of protective suits and lifejackets.
“The Korean new shipbuilding market is highly focused on price, and we stand out by adding high quality and safety to the package. The high visible yellow is another example of our commitment to reliable safety,”   says Alex Kristensen, Sales Manager Japan & Korea, VIKING Life-Saving Equipment.
Visitors to Kormarine 2013 will be able to see the high visible yellow presented in a few selected VIKING products.
“We offer unique protective equipment to the Korean market. The first products in high visibility yellow will be available at the start of 2014,” says Alex Kristensen.

The protective suits and lifejackets in high visibility yellow are the same models as the products offered in traditional colors and VIKING is currently working on getting the appropriate certification.

Founded in 1960 and born global, VIKING is a privately held market leader in maritime and fire safety with group headquarters in Denmark.

The company provides essential safety and fire-fighting equipment to the following segments: passenger, cargo, offshore, defence, fishing, yachting and fire.
