DNV GL Appoints Regional Manager for Greater China
The world’s leading classification society DNV GL appointed Mr. Torgeir Sterri as the Maritime Regional Manager for Greater China. Torgeir Sterri has 20 years’ experience in the global maritime industry and has held a variety of managerial positions in DNV. With the appointment, the newly formed DNV GL Group will continue assisting China’s maritime industry towards a sustainable growth, leveraging its combined technical expertise across all ship segments and in the maritime advisory and deep-water offshore sectors.
“China’s shipbuilding industry has achieved spectacular progress over the past decade,” Mr. Sterri said. “Our commitment to China will deepen through the merger of DNV and GL at a time when China is upgrading its shipbuilding industry by developing more complex ship types and offshore segments. DNV GL offers a broader set of products and services, more in-depth expertise and a denser global network of sites second to none.”
Mr. Sterri will oversee, strengthening and growing DNV GL’s maritime business in Greater China while building up strong relationships with industry stakeholders in this strategically important market. The new Regional Manager based in Shanghai will reassure all maritime customers of the legacy societies DNV and GL that all existing contact points in DNV and GL will continue to operate. “It is of utmost importance to avoid any disruption to customers’ business and ensure consistent and continuous service operations”, insisted Mr. Sterri, who also stressed that all certificates and approvals from DNV and GL will remain valid for the time being.
Prior to this position, Mr Sterri was DNV’s Country Chair for Benelux and Regional Manager of Central Europe and played a vital role in introducing Chinese shipyards to the European market.
In Greater China, DNV GL Maritime will respond actively to the needs of local customers through a denser service network supported by more than 800 dedicated surveyors and maritime professionals. As a customer-focussed company, DNV GL will bring its classification and maritime advisory services closer to local customers by strengthening its technical hub and plan approval centre in Shanghai.
