A Pertamina tanker was involved in a big oil spill yesterday in the Molucca Sea. The KM Patriot Andalan was anchored at the port of Ternate when rough weather ruptured the transfer pipe.
The ship was carrying 7,000 tons of fuel from Papua, of which just 1,600 was saved, the rest washing into the sea.
“We are currently trying to contain the oil spill and prevent it from expanding further, while trying to neutralize the oil already spilled into the sea,” a Pertamina spokesperson told local media yesterday.
