Engine makers have developed further low speed and efficient engines which can burn LPG, Methanal, Dimethyl ether (DME) and bioethanol, instead of LNG to satisfy the Emission Control Area’s low NOx and SOx requirement. For small size and short voyage ship, it will save the expensive LNG bunker tanker to be carried on board.
Most of quality new orders have been rewarded to reputable Chinese shipyards. Some of new established private speculative shipyards are facing short of orders, lack of cash, delay of delivery, depressed confident from owner and disqualified employees. The finance default risk is rising and we may see some banks will become shipyard owners in very near future.
