SAL Heavy Lift has loaded five reactors onto its vessel Svenja in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The reactors were carried to the U.S. and will be installed at several refineries.
Four of the reactors weighed more than 1,450 tonnes each and are nearly 50 meters long, with diameters of 7.6 meters, SAL said in a statement. The fifth reactor weighed 540 tonnes and had a diameter of 6.85 meters.
The 12,500-deadweight-tonne Svenja used its cranes that offer a combined lifting capacity of 2,000 tonnes to lift the reactors onto the deck.
Before crossing the Atlantic, a 440-tonne knuckle boom crane was loaded in Kristiansand, which will later be installed on an offshore ship. Upon reaching Chalmette, La., the knucklecrane and the reactors were discharged. The reactors were loaded on barges for transport to the refineries.
