The Deregulation Bill, due to be published in draft yesterday for pre-legislative scrutiny, includes a key maritime industry ask from the Red Tape Challenge.
It contains a clause that means that, where agreed by Parliament, the very many technical changes to international maritime obligations and standards would be automatically incorporated into UK law when they become effective internationally. The Government would not need to make further secondary legislation and so red tape will be cut significantly.
This measure will really speed up implementation of international conventions and allow for a radical simplification of the maritime legislative framework.
