The European Parliament (EP) and the Council of the European Union (EU) adopted Directive 2013/30/EU on safety of offshore oil and gas operations. The Directive establishes minimum requirements for preventing major accidents in offshore oil and gas operations and limiting the consequences of such accidents.
It directs that Member States require operators to ensure that all suitable measures are taken to prevent major accidents in offshore oil and gas operations.
