Excessive vibration – whether engine, propeller or other machinery – reduces the life expectancy of machinery and equipment, as well as inducing structural fatigue is of universal interest and concern in the global maritime world.
It is therefore not surprising that in addition to speakers from several countries, delegates from Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands and the UK have already registered for the 2nd IMarEST Ship Noise and Vibration Conference, being held in the City of London at Lloyd’s Register of Shipping’s offices in Fenchurch Street on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June.
The two-day conference will fully explore all the machinery, HVAC and hydrodynamic influences on the problems and offer solutions, not least the impact of the problem on humans and marine life – expected to be the next big challenge for shipping.
“With its theme ‘The Next Big Challenge for Shipping’ the conference is a must for shipowners, operators and managers; key representatives from shipyards, engine manufacturers, class societies; and for colleges, academia and research organisations,” explains David Loosley, Chief Executive, of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).
“With its key themes of noise measurement; propulsor cavitation, vibration and noise; shipboard vibration and noise; and radiated noise and the marine environment the conference has attracted a superb line-up of speakers under the chairmanship of Professor John Carlton FREng, Professor of Marine Engineering, City University of London and a past-President of IMarEST. We look forward to seeing you there.
“And, for those wanting to further extend their knowledge there is a workshop on Seaborne Noise – Ambient Noise and Noise Monitoring taking place on Friday 21 June at City University and led by Dr Stephen Robinson, Principal Research Scientist, National Physical Laboratory.”
