The First BWMS to Meet Latest IMO Regulation Worldwide: OceanGuard BWMS Won Full-Scale DNV Type Approval

On May 24th, 2013, OceanGuard Ballast Water Management System (BWMS), developed by Qingdao Headway Technology Co., Ltd., obtained Full-Scale Type Approval Certificate issued by DNV, which is the first BWMS worldwide to meet latest IMO regulation, meanwhile, Headway is also the first BWMS manufacturer to win full-scale DNV Type Approval Certificate all over the world.
The Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its sixty-second session, held from 11 to 15 July 2011, approved the Guidance on scaling of ballast water management systems developed by the BLG Sub-Committee at its fifteenth session, held from 7 to 11 February 2011. The guidance clearly required that each model of BWMS must be approved under the supervision of classification societies. For the Type Approval Certificate which had been issued, only the basic model with the treatment rated capacity (TRC) higher than 200 m3/h while IMO Approval is ongoing is effective. Under the supervision of DNV and CCS classification societies, Headway has completed all the corresponding tests according to the new regulations of BWM.2-Circ.33, while the whole test process and results have been approved by USCG and DNV. Headway successfully obtained full-scale DNV Type Approval Certificate.
The Full-Scale DNV Type Approval Certificate covers all the models of OceanGuard, and it can meet the requirements of all kinds of vessels.
