Inmarsat Plc: Nordic Tankers Migrate to XpressLink for Enhanced Reliability

Nordic Tankers A/S, a leading owner and operator of chemical tankers, is set to migrate the first of its vessels to Inmarsat's (LSE: ISAT.L) XpressLink service, the world's leading fully-integrated Ku-band and L-band solution with VSAT and FleetBroadband terminals.
Nordic Tankers Marine's decision to migrate from its existing service to XpressLink was the result of a comprehensive evaluation of the available satcom solutions, which culminated in sea trials of the Inmarsat service on the 'Nordic Nelly', a 5,800dwt chemical tanker.
"Lack of reliability has a tangible impact on our business," said Ms. Helle Bjerre, Vice President, Nordic Tankers A/S with responsibility for People, IT, CSR and Communication. "Voyage optimisation, for example, can only be achieved if the captain and officers have access to the right information, delivered in real-time. XpressLink contributes to making this possible."

As on-board technology advances, the demand for even greater bandwidth will increase due to the ever growing amount of communication between shore and ship, and with a free migration path to Global Xpress, when this becomes available in 2014, XpressLink also future-proofs our investment."

The future proofing upgrade to Global Xpress for Nordic Tankers will deliver downlink speeds of up to 50Mbps and, up to 5Mbps uplinks.
