In 2012, 10,750 seamen left Primorsk Territory for overseas employment, press center of Seafarers’ Union of Russia reports. According to the territorial Department of the Federal Migration Service, the most popular countries were Cambodia (24%), Cyprus and Netherlands (16% each), Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Panama (6-4%).
The majority (95%) were employed for vessels sailing with foreign flags with every sixth employed with trade specialization with a contract for up to 6 months.
Almost half of those who left the territory (46%) had a higher professional education and 35% – secondary professional education. Most seafarers are men between 40 and 49 years old.
