Hamilton cargo airport Canada's No 3 with US$12.7 million investment
CANADA'S third largest cargo airport, Hamilton International, will house a C$12 million (US$12.17 million) facility to include a 5,574-square metre cross-dock to accommodate growing cargo demand.
The facility is to be funded by federal and Ontario provincial governments as well as the municipal authority, which will deliver C$8 million and an additional C$4 million coming from TradePort International Corp, the airport manager.
The new facility will include multiple truck docks, refrigeration for perishables such as flowers, fruit and vegetables and pharmaceutical products, a live animal centre as well as cargo and courier handling facilities, according to a government statement.
The facility will generate 400 jobs when operational and 50 positions during its construction and development phase.
"We are very proud to have one of the strongest domestic distribution networks in Canada and introducing a new facility will allow us to expand upon the variety of goods that can be moved through Hamilton International," said airport president and CEO Frank Scremin.
