DHL wins US$160.5 million Panasonic UK warehousing delivery contract
GERMANY's DHL Supply Chain has signed a GBP100 million (US$160.5) million Panasonic contract to handle its UK warehousing, pickup and delivery.
Under the deal, DHL assumes end-to-end service for the UK Panasonic supply chain, order fulfillment of high-end consumer electronic goods and enhancement of the company's domestic transport.
DHL said it would deploy its global reach and scale to create "transformational change", to be copied by Panasonic's European supply chain, aggregating data across the entire operation.
Said Panasonic European supply chain chief Nigel Cowmeadow: "It was necessary to bring in an innovative logistics specialist who understands the emerging needs of the technology sector. Our business needs the flexibility to adapt to the demands of current and new markets, addressing rapid product life cycles."
Said Paul Richardson, UK and Ireland DHL Supply Chain specialist service director: "This is a significant solution that has been constructed in a very short timescale."
