NAFTA trade rises 7.9pc in October between US, Canada and Mexico
TRUCK, rail and pipeline trade between the US and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, Canada and Mexico, increased 7.9 per cent in October year on year to US$85.29 billion and up 9.8 per cent on September's trade value.
The value of total US surface trade reached $806 billion in the first 10 months of 2012, reported American Shipper.
October trade with Mexico was up to $36.9 billion, an increase of 13.1 per cent with $16.2 billion goods trucked from Mexico and exports totalling $13.1 billion. Leading US export states were Texas, California, Michigan and Illinois.
In October trade with Canada was up to $17.7 billion with Michigan being the No 1 exporter at $6.7 billion followed by Illinois and California.
During this month trade moved by land was up 38.9 per cent in a steady increase from October 2009 with import growth for the decade at 60 per cent.
