Gothenburg port and DB Schenker to open 24,000-square metre DC
DB SCHENKER has joined the Port of Gothenburg and Nordic Construction Company to build a EUR17.3 million (US$22.5 million) 24,000-square metre logistics facility that will start construction in February and open in December.
The facility will be leased to DB Schenker and increase annual volumes at the Port of Gothenburg by 5,000 TEU to store imports to be delivered to Swedish and Scandinavian consumers.
Gothenburg, a port which reached 900,000 TEU throughput in 2012, is said to be an ideal logistics location for major importer, said Sweden Schenker Logistics chief Mats Olsson.
"The proximity to Gothenburg port and the rest of the infrastructure means that we can deliver goods to the city regions such as Stockholm, Oslo, Malmo, the Gothenburg region and Copenhagen inside a day," he added, reported London's Containerisation International.
