Port of Virginia box throughput up 21.1pc to 198,720 TEU in November
THE US Port of Virginia says it has just experienced its second best month on record for general cargo traffic, handling 198,720 TEU in November, an increase of 21.2 per cent year on year.
Year-to-date, the port handled 1,920,137 TEU, up 8.9 per cent. The November container volume totalled 113,288 units, and general cargo tonnage that includes containers and breakbulk was 1,667,605 tons.
Year-to-date, container volume at VIP is running 1.6 per cent ahead of last year at 31,877, up from 31,366, a statement from port authorities said.
Total rail containers handled during the month came to 37,478, a 40.3 per cent rise. Year-to-date rail containers total came to 351,528, an increase of 16.6 per cent compared to 2012.
