Yunnan focuses on infrastructure to build links to bordering countries
YUNNAN province sees itself as a "bridgehead" between China and neighbouring countries and thus, focuses on building roads, electric power capacity and communication services to enhance foreign trade, reports Xinhua.
Investment in provincial transport infrastructure is estimated to exceed CNY77 billion (US$12.35 billion) by the end of 2012. Yunnan has been increasing infrastructure construction and much progress has been made building railways, highways, waterways and airports.
The number of national class-1 checkpoints totalled 16 in Yunnan. The central government and the Yunnan provincial government invested CNY400 million in the construction of checkpoints and customs facilitation every year.
