December10 marked FedEx's busiest day in the company's history
FEDEX, said it predicting it will handle 19 million packages through its network on December 10, or 200 packages per second, making this the busiest day in the company's history.
"We have been preparing for this busy holiday shipping season for almost a year now," said vice president Michael Glenn. FedEx expects 280 million packages will be handled between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a 13 per cent increase over 2011.
The spike in holiday volumes has been attributed to the increase in e-commerce as high volumes of lighter shipments are dispatched to residential customers. Traffic levels on the busiest day have doubled in seven years, after 9.8 million shipments were handled on December 12, 2005.
