DHL opens new hub in Miami to serve Latin America and the Caribbean
DHL has opened a new 13,300-square-metre logistics hub in Miami to process shipments from all over the world destined for Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond.
"The expansion of our operations at MIA [Miami] is part of our long-term investment to support market growth in import and export volumes along the US-Latin America trade lane," said DHL Express US chief executive Ian Clough.
The company has also signed a new "global buyer initiative" to bring together its customers throughout the world with US small- and medium-sized business suppliers. The global buyer programme falls under the US Government National Export Initiative, which is designed to create jobs by increasing the number of businesses that import and export products.
In the past decade total trade between the US and Latin America has risen by 82 per cent, according to a 2011 Congressional Research Service Report on trade between the US and Latin America.
