MSC launches first service to call at Fangcheng port in Guangxi, China
GENEVA-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world's second largest carrier, has launched its first shipping service calling at Fangcheng, a port in southwest China's Guangxi Autonomous Region on the Beibu Gulf, also known as Gulf of Tonkin.
MSC deploys four 2,076-TEU ships with a deadweight tonnage of 25,000 tonnes on this weekly intra-Asian service connecting south China to south east Asia. Port rotation includes Singapore, Laem Chabang, Ho Chi Minh, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Fuzhou, Shantou, Hong Kong, Fangcheng, Qui Nhon, Ho Chi Minh and back to Singapore. It calls at Fangcheng port every Monday.
An unnamed staff from Fangcheng port was quoted by Xinhua as saying that the service, operated by a world-class carrier, will promote Fangcheng port, enhance its shipping network and strengthen its competitive edges through its connection to Singapore, a major shipping hub in south east Asia.
