Largest Sino-Mongolian border checkpoint opens cargo-use road
A road exclusively for freight transportation has been completed and opened to traffic at the largest checkpoint on the Sino-Mongolian border, the Erehot-Zamynuud checkpoint, Xinhua reports.
60 per cent of the trade cargo between China and Mongolia are transported via the Erehot-Zamynuud checkpoint. As the trade between the two countries are rapidly increasing, the checkpoint is reaching its capacity limit in both cargo and travellers, resulting infrequent congestion.
In order to raise the checkpoint's clearance capacity, China and Mongolia reached a non-reimbursable assistance agreement according to which China will spend CNY13 million (US$2.09 million) on building a road for cargo running through the checkpoint. The road is 1.15 kilometres long with 540 metres within the border of China and 700 in Mongolia, and can support trucks of up to 30 tonnes.
Vice Chairman of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region said the new road optimized the checkpoint's clearance service and will have significant positive impact on the trade between the two countries.
