Tangshan port to build two new container berths at Jingtang port area
NORTHERN China's Tangshan port is soon to start building two new container berths at its Jingtang port area with the approval from the Ministry of Transport, Xinhua reports.
The new terminal, with the No 26 and No 27 berth, are located at the south of the third harbour basin at Jingtang port area. It can accommodate containerships with a deadweight tonnage of 100,000 tonnes. It has a quay length of 690 metres.
Each berth has a capacity of 70,000 tonnes. After completion, the terminal can handle up to 900,000 TEU per year. Estimated investment on the project is CNY1.36 billion (US$218.21 million).
The project will bring Tangshan port's aggregate capacity to 1.1 million TEU, making Tangshan the first port in Hebei province with a capacity of more than one million TEU.
