Guangdong's three port strategies for Asia Pacific, PRD and China

GUANGDONG province has worked out three strategies for provincial port development: One for Asia Pacific trade, another for the China domestic trade China and one for the Pearl River Delta, Xinhua reports.

In the Asia Pacific strategy, Guangdong sees itself as the centre of the Japan/Korea-South East China-Oceania Economic Corridor and plans to build an integrated traffic network, and to expand its network in new markets such as South America, Africa and ASEAN countries while consolidating its status in the European and North American markets by attracting more carriers to set up branches.

In the China strategy, Guangdong sees itself as a hub for cargo flow between north and south of the country as it is located in the middle of the five major port aggregations: The Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the southwest cluster. The province aims to build closer cooperative ties with the interior, expanding its "dry port" network and strengthening PDR ports of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhanjiang, Zhuhai and Shantou.

Within the Pearl River Delta, Guangdong aims to develop sea-river and sea-land intermodal service connecting the province to southwest China and Hong Kong and Macau as well as develop Guangzhou's Nansha and Huangpu port area, Shenzhen's western port areas, Zhuhai's Gaolan and Wanshan port area, Dongguan's Humen Port area, Zhongshan's Hengmen port area and Jiangmen's Yinzhouhu port area into the gateway for Guangdong.
