New Orleans cargo up 8.5pc, sets record container volumes in 2012
THE Port of New Orleans has experienced strong growth in 2012 at 241,707 TEU in the first six months with general cargo up 8.5 per cent, boosted by a breakbulk increase at 23 per cent.
The record traffic for the year is attributed to container terminal investment and new infrastructure projects valued at US$100 million, said the port's CEO Gary LaGrange.
The port has increased vessels calls by three per cent year to date, said Mr LaGrange.
