DB Schenker opens 9,000-square metre DC between Tokyo airports
SCHENKER-SEINO Co Ltd has signed a 10-year lease agreement with the logistics retail Redwood Group for a build-to-suit warehouse in the greater Tokyo area. The facility will provide additional logistics capacity to customers from various industries, including electronics.
It will feature the newest environmental technologies and will provide substantial energy saving measures in line with the sustainable strategy DB2020 of the DB Schenker Group.
The 9,000-square metre warehouse is scheduled to start operations in September 2013. The total area of the four-storied building will be 33,000 square metres, with 30 truck berths. It will be the largest of Schenker-Seino's warehouses to date.
Said Schenker-Seino CEO Herbert Wilhelm: "We very much look forward to having this facility as an addition to our already existing logistics centres for the benefit of our customers."
Target customers are non-Japanese companies that are planning to expand their business in the East Asian nation. As the site is located in a high-density logistics area between the airports of Narita and Haneda and near the Tokyo port, the facility offers customs brokerage services.
The building will be designed to be highly energy efficient and functional, using the highest standards of seismic engineering and environmental technologies. Up to 30 per cent energy savings will be realised through a photovoltaic power generation system consisting of 2,940 solar panels on the roof and exclusive LED lighting. Rainwater will be collected and used. The warehouse is expected to get TAPA-A certification after completion, a company release said.
