Tianjin airport courier centre throughput surges 67pc to 10,056 tonnes

TIANJIN airport's express courier centre's volume through to October 28 this year has totalled 10,056 tonnes, surging 67 per cent over the same period in 2011.

This is the first time that the centre sees its annual volume exceed the benchmark of 10,000 tonnes since it was founded in October 2000.

The facility occupies 4,300 square metres, using high-tech inspection equipment and management software. The centre combines verification of manifests and cargo supervision, which accelerates customs clearance. On the single process of handling incoming express package, two to three hours can be saved compared to conventional ways.

World's leading players of FedEx, UPS, DHL and TNT, and domestic express companies such as Sinotrans have developed long-term partnership with the centre.

In recent years, the centre's business has thrived with the support from the customs. Tianjin Aviation Cargo Services Centre (TCS) is applying for expansion of the express package handling facility to meet increasing demand. The expansion project will separate transshipment from direct shipments to further enhance efficiency.
