North American intermodal quarterly volume up 11pc to 3.7 million units
US, Canadian and Mexican intermodal volumes increased 3.2 per cent in the third quarter to 3.77 million units, according to statistics released by the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA).
The group's Intermodal Market Trends & Statistics report also revealed that third quarter US intermodal container volume was up 11.3 per cent to 1.41 million units year on year.
Every IANA region posted increases in domestic containers, with the largest increases in the Midwest and Northeast. Trailer volume dropped 10.7 per cent to 0.38 million in the third quarter of this year. Third quarter cross-border throughput was upticks 0.9 per cent to 1.98 million units.
