Singapore Customs exacts new export requirements to improve security
SINGAPORE is to introduce from April 1 a new export declaration requirement to align itself more closely with international practice in an effort to enhance security.
The introduction of Advance Export Declaration (AED) will provide Singapore Customs with sufficient time to check the risk of goods for export and to work more effectively with overseas authorities using Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs).
Singapore Customs chief Fong Yong Kian said the international emphasis will allow it to provide timely information and support the country's trade facilitation.
Singapore Air Cargo Agents' Association chairman, Steven Lee agrees that the AED initiative will improve Singapore's status as a free port with higher security and safety and "promote more cargo flows via Singapore as a regional hub."
Singapore Customs are looking into ways to support companies, particularly SMEs, in implementing AEDs and improving the speed of business pipelines.
