Gothenburg posts 4pc rise in quarterly box volume to 226,000 TEU

THE Port of Gothenburg has posted a four per cent increase in third quarter container volume to 226,000 TEU year on year, reports Gdynia's Baltic Transport Journal.

But overall January-September results for containers dropped two per cent year on year despite the third quarter increase.

Gothenburg reported a 30 per cent increase in liquid cargo (oil, diesel, ethanol, asphalt) movement, setting a new quarterly record to 6.1 million tonnes. But ro-ro traffic continued to decrease - down four per cent to 127,000 cargo units with cars being the major item of shrinkage, down by 33 per cent to 30,000 units.
